Vedanta university to receive 500 less acres

Bhubaneswar: The Proposal of the Anil Agarwal Foundation for a World Class University is expected to receive 7500 acres. The Foundation had asked for around 8000 cares from the State Government of Orissa. This decision was taken at the 4th core committee meeting of the Vedanta foundation yesterday.

There will be a super-specialty hospital of 1000 beds along with a Medical College which will be created in the sea beach between Puri and Konark. Only after this will the University project will be started.

The meeting requested that the land acquisition process be expedited and it was concluded that land will be handed-over by June end. Near the University area there are around 22 Villages. Notices have been issued in 6 of these villages. The Foundation has been marked to be issued 450 acres of Government land. The Foundation will provide 5000 crore Rupees, and will be giving 4500 crores in the 1st phase. The University will start taking students for study and research from 2008 onwards. This institution is expected to have an investment of 15,000 crores and will be complete by 2025.

Lakhs of students from India and abroad will study in this institution.The MOU was signed in 2006, July on 16th by the Foundation and the State Government. The Union Comissnor Mr. R.N. Bohidar chaired this meeting in the presence of Higher education secretary A.K. Tripathy,Puri District Collector, Vedanta Representatives and some Senior Officials.
